Yeshua here [above] is speaking to His disciples privately on the Mount of Olives, and is responding to their question, “Tell us, when will these things be? And what will be the sign of Your coming, and of the end of the age?” Matthew chapter 24 is akin to Mark chapter 13, and Luke chapter 21… all concerning the last days, or the “end of the age.” What is the end of the age, how long does it last? What clues do you think point to such a time, and their “beginning”? Well, these three chapters are certainly road/time markers of the times… that is, if you have read [and given serious consideration to] what the Bible has revealed about the life of men and their doings throughout history. But the discussion I wish to present concerns, “lawlessness” abounding, and the “love” of many growing cold…

First, lets take a close look at the definition of lawlessness… translated as “iniquity” in some Bibles. Specifically it is the Greek word [g0458] “anomia.”

The KJV translates Strong's G458 in the following manner: iniquity (12x), unrighteousness (1x), transgress the law (with G4160) (1x), transgression of the law (1x). 1. properly, the condition of one without law — either because ignorant of it, or because violating it. 2. contempt and violation of law, iniquity, wickedness. [ref: online “Blue Letter Bible], https://www.blueletterbible.org/

I don’t think you have to look very far from your front door to see the increasing trend towards lawlessness… everywhere in all nations and cultures… Our last two generations of students from American educational institutions have been progressively brainwashed “how” to think certain ways [Marxism, relativism, and irresponsible destructive activism]… not taught how to think critically, objectively, rationally, and morally… basic common sense characteristics found throughout the Bible. In other words, Anti-Christ itellectualism. All with nihilistic cause and effect consequences for others and one’s own self. Our news media, educational trend, social media and entertainment industries are increasingly corrupt and spew out immoral and wicked practices that attract sinful flesh… a natural condition of indulgence for those without the Spirit of God indwelling their intellect and emotional interest. Iniquity and its subsequent damages are far reaching into all venues of life.

The second word definition we will examine is “love.” There are four kinds of love considered in the Bible… to see a one page definition for them, go here. The “love” in Yeshua’s Mount Olivet discourse we are concerned with, growing cold, is the Greek word [g026] “agape”

The KJV translates Strong's G26 in the following manner: love (86x), charity (28x), dear (1x), charitably (with G2596) (1x), feasts of charity (1x). 1. affection, good will, love, benevolence, brotherly love. [ref: online “Blue Letter Bible], https://www.blueletterbible.org/

Now, as you study the Bible, you come to understand the “agape” love definition is namely a love of choice; it is not an emotional or fuzzy boy-girl affection type love. It is a divine inculcation from the nature of Yahweh that grows in us as we follow the Torah’s instruction and the example of Yeshua. So, then, if one has this indwelling nature of divine love, why does Yeshua talk of it growing cold because of lawlessness [iniquity]… do you remember these scriptures:

“9 And let us not grow weary while doing good, for in due season we shall reap if we do not lose heart. 10 Therefore, as we have opportunity, let us do good to all, especially to those who are of the household of faith.” gal 6:9-10 nkjv

“ But he who endures to the end shall be saved.” mat 24:13 nkjv

“17 And you will be hated by all for My name’s sake. 18 But not a hair of your head shall be lost. 19 By your patience possess your souls.” lk 21:17-19 nkjv

The “last days” [end of the age] persecution of the Saints [faithful followers of Yeshua] is going to test the most faithful and ardent follower of the Scriptures… I think it will first be the “in your face” lawlessness and wickedness [as we see now, but increasing in wickedness], and then the attrition of one’s patience and tolerance will open one’s thinking to looking the other way and ignoring the humanity that is perishing on the shores of hell. I think satan’s objective is to dull our “love” in order to keep us from reaching out to the lost, and those perishing. I don’t know about you, but I can sometimes catch myself distancing myself from the seedy and disgusting people who are not so “lovable.” I think we must be available and willing to be as was the good Samaritan that found the wasted victim the robbers left for dead on the Jericho road. Agape love is surely a selfless act that only the divine indwelling of the Holy Spirit can perform in us. It gives meaning to “take up your cross and follow Yeshua,” another choice issue.

When thinking about preparing this week’s devotional, I was studying Psalms chapter 10… I hope you will read it for an overview of the difference between the righteous and wicked. Also, here are a couple of links that fit into this week’s devotional context.

The Last Days... Yeshua is Coming soon!

What is Love?

Shalom, John

“I would have lost heart, unless I had believed That I would see the goodness of the Lord In the land of the living. 14 Wait on the Lord; Be of good courage, And He shall strengthen your heart; Wait, I say, on the Lord!”   ps 27:13-14 nkjv
