November 2, 2021 The chapter caption in my Bible says Psalms 25 is David’s “Plea for Deliverance and Forgiveness.” David says, “To you O LORD, I lift up my soul,” as noted above. This was around 3,150 years ago. David was said to be Israel’s Great King. Yet, David was a humble and simple man, who worshiped The God of Israel [Yahweh]. He was not known to seek his own greatness, but he sought to magnify the God of Israel… as should we. However, in our modern “church age,” the fanfare of entertainment religion is more the example of men’s attempt at interaction with the God of Israel. Quite a different picture. Let us reduce the example to a simple “individual” interaction with Yahweh, and cast away the feel-good, self-gratifying and concert production that over shadows our real need for “Deliverance and Forgiveness.” Here is what David cries to Yahweh for: “Show me Your ways, O Lord; Teach me Your paths. 5 Lead me in Your truth and teach me, For You are the God of my salvation; On You I wait all the day. 6 Remember, O Lord, Your tender mercies and Your lovingkindnesses, For they are from of old. 7 Do not remember the sins of my youth, nor my transgressions; According to Your mercy remember me, For Your goodness’ sake, O Lord.” ps 25:4-7 nkjv David then expounds on the greatness of Yahweh and His Holiness and how He teaches the humble in His ways… and recites great benefits in following him. Then He continues, asking for Yahweh’s favor and deliverance and forgiveness: “Turn Yourself to me, and have mercy on me, For I am desolate and afflicted. 17 The troubles of my heart have enlarged; Bring me out of my distresses! 18 Look on my affliction and my pain, And forgive all my sins. 19 Consider my enemies, for they are many; And they hate me with cruel hatred. 20 Keep my soul, and deliver me; Let me not be ashamed, for I put my trust in You. 21 Let integrity and uprightness preserve me, For I wait for You.” ps 25:16-21 nkjv I find this Psalm a very inspiring and comforting antidote, as we are immersed in an unhinged society and pressed by a tyrannical government power structure that grows more hostile to Biblical principles as days go by. My point is, the place we find our peace now is no different than it was in David’s time; and about 1,000 years later, in a continuing emphasis, Yeshua [Jesus] said, in John 14:27, “Peace I leave with you, My peace I give to you; not as the world gives do I give to you. Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid. Shalom... John |
