January 4, 2022

Greetings and best wishes for a peaceful and divinely blessed 2022!

I will begin with the word “zeitgeist,” which according to Webster means, “referring to the general intellectual, moral, and cultural climate of an era.” Notice the “spiritual” climate is not included… I propose that the spiritual climate is even more important than the other references.

How would you assess our present cultural “spiritual” climate? How would you think the “spiritual” climate was in Egypt when Moses was a household adopted son of Pharaoh's daughter, just before he killed an Egyptian who was afflicting one of his “Hebrew brethren?”

When Moses fled to the land of Midian to escape Pharaoh's intent to kill him (because he killed the Egyptian), he became a caretaker of his father-in-law’s sheep (to shorten the story). Do you think Moses, being raised by his birth mother, until old enough to permanently dwell in Pharaoh’s court, would have been instructed in his Hebrew heritage faith, at least well enough to know some level of moral and spiritual responsibility before God? Most likely he was, as his mother was a daughter of the Levi clan, a priestly tribe. However, since his youth until his present “now,” he probably did not think much about it… but, according to the Torah Word that his mother likely taught him, the “seed” of truth and righteousness was dormant in him, waiting for the moment it would be “germinated,” in Yahweh’s planned time, Isa 55:11 nkjv (I think we believers have Yahweh planned times in our lives, waiting to come forth, because that is how the holy seed/Word works).

In Exodus Chapter 3, we will see the power of Yahweh’s Spirit drawing Moses to a most unusual spectacle…

“And the Angel of the Lord appeared to him in a flame of fire from the midst of a bush. So he looked, and behold, the bush was burning with fire, but the bush was not consumed. 3 Then Moses said, “I will now turn aside and see this great sight, why the bush does not burn.” 4 So when the Lord saw that he turned aside to look, God called to him from the midst of the bush and said, “Moses, Moses!” And he said, “Here I am.” 5 Then He said, “Do not draw near this place. Take your sandals off your feet, for the place where you stand is holy ground.” 6 Moreover He said, “I am the God of your father—the God of Abraham, the God of Isaac, and the God of Jacob.” And Moses hid his face, for he was afraid to look upon God.” ex 3:2-6 nkjv

I believe we all may have had, or will likely have, “eye opening” spiritual challenges in our lives; consider the Apostle Paul’s experience on the road to Damascus; birthing life-changing destiny for one’s future, the only question is… will we hide our face from the Almighty Creator Yahweh when He decides it is time for the seed of His Word in us to germinate? It seems to me, Yahweh manifests Himself in Spiritual dynamics that, if honest, we can not deny. I think the time in which we now live the “zeitgeist,” if you will, is ripe for the dynamic revealing of Yahweh’s Word to come alive in faithful “appointed/divinely selected” believers.

Moses fears and insecurity concerning Yahweh’s plan for him to confront the all powerful Pharaoh prompts him to argue with Yahweh as to his ability, etc… I think a normal reaction for most of us. But notice the response of the Almighty…

“And God said to Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.” And He said, “Thus you shall say to the children of Israel, ‘I AM has sent me to you.’ ” ex 3:13-15 nkjv

Many commentators have expounded upon the significance of the “I AM” answer to Moses. For us, and should we find ourselves “appointed/divinely selected,” for the moment of destiny for our purpose as Yahweh sees us, let us remember Yahweh’s solution for all things concerning a mortal being sufficient to the task He calls them to is defined here:

“This is the word of the Lord to Zerubbabel: ‘Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit,’ Says the Lord of hosts. 7 ‘Who are you, O great mountain? Before Zerubbabel you shall become a plain! And he shall bring forth the capstone With shouts of “Grace, grace to it!” zech 4:6-7 nkjv

Nothing we can do for spiritual duties appointed to us by Yahweh can be done in the flesh, the natural power of our own talents and ability… The Great I AM has it all worked out, BEFORE He draws us to the spectacle of the “burning bush” moment in our lives.

Shalom... John

“Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. 8 So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. 9 But you are not in the flesh but in the Spirit, if indeed the Spirit of God dwells in you. Now if anyone does not have the Spirit of Christ, he is not His.”rom 8:7-9 nkjv
